Laura Gagnon, MA Communication

Laura is the guiding force behind Iron Horse Niibawi’s commitment to building a security organization rooted in inclusivity, equity, and respect. With a clear vision and deep understanding of systemic barriers, she ensures that every facet of our operations is viewed through a lens of diversity and human dignity. Through Laura’s strategic insight and unwavering advocacy, Iron Horse Niibawi continues to set a new standard for equitable practices within the security industry.

Laura is Ojibwe from Northwestern Ontario, with strong ties to Aroland First Nation. She holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Media Studies with a minor in Indigenous Studies, as well as a Master’s in Communications—both from Carleton University. Her academic work blends Indigenous methodologies with Western theory, using embodiment and affect to highlight Indigenous brilliance and cultural knowledge.

Laura realizes that education can offer a pathway to (re)thinking about Indigenous peoples’ relationship to self, community and government, therefore, she finds motivation by offering some of these perspectives to ensure these relationships are built stronger and more fruitful.
